Fasten your seatbelts. Ohio is reasserting itself as the epicenter of harness racing. Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway, which opened October 3rd for its inaugural 56-day meeting, burst onto the Grand Circuit racing scene Friday evening featuring a pair of six-figure Stakes for four year olds and up. In fact, both the Dayton Pacing ($122,000) and Dayton Trotting ($162,000) Derby offered purses unmatched by any domestic racetrack, Standardbred or Thoroughbred, on this date. Not too shabby considering the newness of the latest Ohio video lottery terminal (VLT) infused facility. Mark Loewe, Penn Gaming’s Vice President of Ohio Racing Operations, is enthusiastic “Racing is a big part of our business and Penn Gaming is the largest owner of racetracks in the county.”  ...more >
